What does this tool do?

Names are shuffled securely and then dealt into teams one by one, so team sizes never differ by more than one person.

Random teams feel fair to everyone and save time in classrooms, sports sessions and workshops. You can split by the number of teams you need, or by how many people each team should have.

Why use it?

  • Classroom groups.

Frequently asked questions

Is it truly random?

Results come from crypto.getRandomValues, your browser's cryptographically secure random generator, with an unbiased method of picking from a range — so every outcome is equally likely.

What if the names don't divide evenly into teams?

Names are dealt out one at a time, so team sizes never differ by more than one person. With 10 people in 3 teams, you get teams of 4, 3 and 3.
