How to use the JSON to CSV Converter

  1. Paste your JSON array into the left box, or open a file.
  2. Adjust the options if you need to.
  3. Copy the CSV or download it as a file.

What does this tool do?

Each object in the array becomes a row and each key becomes a column. Objects with different keys are merged, so no data is lost. Nested objects are flattened into dot-notation columns like address.city, and short lists are joined with semicolons.

Values containing commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted correctly, following the CSV standard (RFC 4180), so Excel and Google Sheets open the file cleanly.

Why use it?

  • Analyse API data in a spreadsheet.
  • Share data with non-technical colleagues.
  • Choose comma, semicolon or tab delimiters.

Use cases

  • Open an API response or export in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Hand data to colleagues who don't read JSON.
  • Load JSON records into tools that only import CSV.

Example

[{"name":"Ada","address":{"city":"London"}}] becomes:
name,address.city
Ada,London

Common mistakes

  • Pasting an object of objects keyed by ID ({"a1": {…}, "b2": {…}}). It becomes a single row with many columns. Convert it to an array of objects first.
  • Opening the CSV in Excel and losing leading zeros or long IDs. Excel turns 00123 into 123 and long numbers into scientific notation; use Data → From Text/CSV and set those columns to Text.

Privacy

Everything you type is processed in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers or stored by us. There's no account to create and nothing to install.

Frequently asked questions

Excel puts everything in one column. Why?

Some regional settings (common in Europe) expect semicolons. Choose the semicolon delimiter and download again.

What happens to arrays inside my objects?

Lists of simple values, like tags, are joined into one cell with semicolons (red; green). Lists of objects are kept as JSON text in a single cell, so no data is lost — split them into their own sheet if you need them as rows.

Is there a size limit?

You can paste JSON or open a file up to 20 MB. Everything runs in your browser, so very large files depend on your device's memory.

How do I open the CSV in Google Sheets?

Go to File → Import → Upload and choose the CSV, or simply paste the CSV text into a cell. Sheets detects the commas and splits the data into columns.
