How to use the Markdown Editor
- Type Markdown in the editor, open a .md file, or load one of the examples.
- Use the toolbar (or Ctrl/⌘ + B, I, K) for headings, emphasis, links, lists, tables and code blocks.
- Switch between Write, Split and Preview, and show a table of contents built from your headings.
- Save as .md or as a standalone .html page, copy the HTML, or press Make a PDF.
What does this tool do?
The preview uses GitHub-flavoured Markdown, so tables, task lists (- [ ]), strikethrough, fenced code blocks and automatic links work as they do on GitHub and most documentation sites. Toolbar buttons work on the selected lines: select three lines and press the numbered-list button to number all three.
Any HTML inside your Markdown is sanitized before it's shown or exported — scripts, event handlers and javascript: links are removed — so pasting Markdown from elsewhere is safe. The HTML download is a complete, lightly styled page you can open in any browser. Make a PDF opens your document in the Text to PDF tool, which lays out headings, lists, tables and code as a designed PDF.
Why use it?
- Live GitHub-style preview with tables and task lists.
- Table of contents from your headings.
- Safe HTML export and one-click PDF.
- Private: nothing you write is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
Is my document saved?
Not automatically — it stays in this page until you close it. Save it as .md to keep it. Make a PDF stores a copy in this browser so the PDF tool can open it.
Can I export to PDF?
Yes. Make a PDF sends your Markdown to the Text to PDF tool, where you can choose a design and download the PDF.
Does it support HTML inside Markdown?
Basic HTML such as <br> or is kept; anything that could run code is stripped out.
