Free Reading Games for Kids
Five games that follow the path most children take into reading: letter sounds, words, longer words, then stories.
Learning to read happens in layers. First children learn that letters stand for sounds, then they learn to blend those sounds into words, and then they need to understand what the words are saying. These games follow that order: Letter Sound Adventure for letters and first sounds, Word Builder for blending and spelling simple words, Word Safari for digraphs like sh and ch, vowel teams and longer words, Story Sequence Adventure for understanding short stories, and Tale Tree for making stories of their own.
Every game reads its prompts aloud, so children who can't read yet can still play on their own, and each one has a parents' guide with offline activities that practise the same skill away from the screen.
