How to use the Screenshot Annotator
- Paste a screenshot with Ctrl/Cmd+V, or choose an image.
- Pick a tool and drag on the image: arrow, box, highlight or blur. Click to place text or numbered steps.
- Undo as needed, then download the annotated PNG.
What does this tool do?
Ideal for bug reports, how-to guides and support replies. Numbered step markers count up automatically, and the blur tool pixelates a region so email addresses, names and passwords can't be read.
Pixelation here replaces the pixels in the exported image — the original detail is not hidden underneath and can't be recovered from the file. Your images are processed on your own device and never uploaded.
Why use it?
- Paste straight from the clipboard.
- Pixelate private details.
- Auto-numbered steps.
Use cases
- Show exactly where to click in a how-to or support reply.
- Report a bug with the problem circled and the steps numbered.
- Share a screenshot with names, emails or account numbers pixelated.
Common mistakes
- Using a thin highlight to hide private details. A highlight is see-through — use the blur (pixelate) tool, which replaces the pixels in the exported image.
- Putting long sentences on the image. A few words next to an arrow are easier to read; put the explanation in your message.
Privacy
Your files are processed entirely in your browser using built-in web technologies. They are not uploaded to our servers, and closing the page clears them from memory. There's no account to create and nothing to install.
Frequently asked questions
How do I paste a screenshot?
Take the screenshot (Windows: Win + Shift + S; Mac: Cmd + Shift + Ctrl + 4 copies it to the clipboard), then press Ctrl/Cmd + V on this page. You can also drop or choose an image file.
Which tools are included?
Arrows, boxes, highlights, text labels, auto-numbered step markers and a blur tool that pixelates an area. Pick a colour, and undo any mark.
Can the blurred area be recovered?
No. The exported PNG contains only the pixelated version, so the original detail isn't hidden underneath.
Is my screenshot uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser; the annotated image is downloaded straight to your device as a PNG.
