Frequently asked questions
Should I change existing URLs to better slugs?
Only with a 301 redirect from the old URL. Changing URLs without redirects breaks links and can lose rankings.
Should I remove small words like “the” and “and” from slugs?
Often, yes, as long as the slug still reads naturally. “how-to-bake-bread” is clearer than “how-to-bake-bread-at-home-the-easy-way”, but don't strip words that change the meaning.
