How to use the Time Calculator
- Choose “Time between two times” or “Add / subtract time”.
- Enter your times (and any unpaid break).
- Read the duration in hours and minutes, and as decimal hours.
What does this tool do?
Timesheets usually need decimal hours: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours, not 7.45. The calculator shows both.
If the end time is earlier than the start, it's treated as an overnight shift.
Why use it?
- Fill in timesheets correctly.
- Plan shifts and schedules.
- Add up durations without base-60 mistakes.
Example
A shift from 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM with a 30-minute unpaid break is 8 hours worked, or 8.00 decimal hours.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 45 minutes is 0.75 hours, 30 minutes is 0.5 and 15 minutes is 0.25, so 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours on a timesheet.
How do I work out hours worked with an unpaid break?
Find the time between your start and end times, then subtract the break. 8:30 to 17:00 is 8 hours 30 minutes; minus a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours.
